Selma Blair gives comforting advice amid coronavirus in conversation with Miley Cyrus

Selma Blair has been vocal about her health through the years, and she's continuing to use her voice to offer advice and comfort amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The actress on Monday (virtually) sat down with Miley Cyrus for a new episode of the singer's Instagram show, "Bright Minded," and revealed how she has coped with self-isolation from having to undergo various treatments for her multiple sclerosis prior to the outbreak.

"I've been pretty much in isolation for two years, because my physical issues make it harder to get out, harder to speak, all of these things," Blair said. "Now everyone's on this same daily trajectory I'm on."

She added that she loves "when people can find the real gift" during hardships and health struggles "other than crisis and worry."

Blair revealed her MS diagnosis via Instagram in October 2018, writing she "probably had this incurable disease for 15 years at least," but her symptoms "were never taken seriously."

According to Mayo Clinic, MS is "a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord." Symptoms may include tremors, electric-shock sensations, numbness, loss of vision and slurred speech, among others.

The actress also shared how she's viewing self-isolation now.

"This is an incredible time for me, because I’m home, and to have my son home and to be able to have people understand … there’s just nothing that gets me mad for long anymore, and it hasn’t for a couple years," Blair said.

Blair offered advice when Cyrus asked how to manage "receiving medical news that can immediately feel terrifying," as people watching may be dealing with coronavirus now or in the near future.

"This moment is what we have, (even though) we hope for more," Blair said, adding that "being vulnerable … is a form of strength to me and has helped me for other people to shoulder stuff when I've been nervous."

Blair encouraged people to "really take this opportunity to be the best you (that) you can be to help your days along."

She also joked that "unlike most other moms, I don't keep a schedule right now with my kid," referencing spending time with her 8-year-old son Arthur, who is home from school as schools across the country close their doors to help stop the spread of COVID-19. "This is Woodstock, enjoy it! … Kind of anything goes at this point."

"There has not been one minute that I have felt sorry for myself … I just really look in the moment," Blair said. "We're all just doing what we can to enjoy this and help our children or parents or neighbors."
