Seminole deputy arrested for sexual battery and false imprisonment

Seminole County authorities arrested a deputy on a warrant for sexual battery and false imprisonment.

On Monday, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office started a criminal investigation after a female victim filed a complaint against Deputy Sheriff Andrew Bergkvist.

The victim said Bergvist initiated a traffic stop and then touched her inappropriately, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

“We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior, regardless of who commits it,” Sheriff Dennis Lemma said. “It is our oath and responsibility to uphold the law and support to victims of these crimes, not create victims.”

Officials suspended the deputy on Tuesday and booked him into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on a “no bond” status on Wednesday.

Authorities said they’re reviewing footage from all of Bergkvist’s traffic stops to search for additional cases.

As of now, no other incidents or victims have been identified, officials said.

Bergkvist began working with the agency in March 2017 as a detention deputy.

He was sworn in as a deputy sheriff in July 2020.
