Sen.-elect Joe Bellino Jr. has ceremonial swearing-in for new lawmaking role

LANSING — After serving three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives, Joe Bellino Jr. will continue to serve in a new role starting in January.

Bellino, R-Monroe, was elected in November to the state Senate seat for Michigan’s 16th District, which includes most of Lenawee, Monroe and Hillsdale counties.

He was ceremonially sworn in Monday by Monroe County District Judge Jack Vitale at the Monroe County Courthouse. His Senate term officially begins Jan. 1.

“I am thrilled and honored to continue serving the great people of Monroe County, along with our neighbors in Lenawee and Hillsdale counties,” Bellino said in a news release. “Thank you all for entrusting me to continue serving you, now as your state senator. I assure you I will continue to fight tooth and nail for our community.”

Bellino is a lifelong Monroe County resident. He earned a degree from Monroe County Community College and is an owner of Broadway Market.

He was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2016 and began serving the District 17 community in 2017.

Bellino is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the National Rifle Association. He and his wife, Peggy, have three children.
