State Sen. Harriette Chandler will make an announcement about her career on Wednesday.

WORCESTER — State Sen. Harriette Chandler will hold a press conference Wednesday morning about "the future of her career in public service."

Chandler, 84, is a Democrat representing the 1st Worcester District. She has served as a legislator for 28 years, beginning as a state representative from the 13th Worcester District in 1995 before she became a state senator in 2001.

Chandler is the first woman to be elected to the state Senate from Worcester. She also served as Senate president from from 2017 to 2018.

The press conference will be held at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Worcester City Hall.

When asked about her future last year, Chandler said at the time that she had no plans to retire but did not rule it out entirely.

Chandler has also served as a member of the Worcester School Committee.
