Sen. Mitch McConnell discharged from hospital after fall, concussion

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was discharged from the hospital Monday, his office said.

Th 81-year-old Kentucky Republican tripped and fell last Wednesday at a Senate Leadership Fund dinner at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington D.C.

He suffered a concussion after hitting his head, and a rib fracture. His office said last week that McConnell was expected to be hospitalized for observation for several days, but that he was “doing well” and “eager” to leave.

The minority leader is expected to undergo more treatment for an indeterminate length of time. The average length of stay for inpatient rehab is just under two weeks, according to the Center for Medicare Advocacy.

That recovery time can be longer or shorter based on a number of factors, including overall fitness.

McConnell previously fell at his Louisville home in 2019, breaking his shoulder.

He is the latest senator to be hospitalized this year. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was hospitalized earlier this month with shingles. Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) was hospitalized twice in February, including for treatment for depression.
