Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville said he will continue his seven-monthslong blockade of military promotions amid Hamas’ attack on Israel, claiming he will not let up until the Pentagon ends it policy funding abortion-related travel for service members and their families.

In a statement to NBC, Tuberville spokesperson Steve Stafford said, “The Pentagon clearly thinks forcing taxpayers to facilitate abortion is more important than confirming their top nominees without a vote. They could end this situation today by dropping their illegal and immoral policy and get everyone confirmed rapidly, but they refuse.

“If the Biden administration wants their nominees confirmed then Senate Democrats can do what (Tuberville) just did in September and file a cloture petition to force a vote.”

On Saturday, Fox News’ national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin mentioned Tuberville and the blockade when discussing how the U.S.’s weapons cache in Israel will be used.

She said, “Referring to that $2 billion in weapons that the U.S. stores in Israel, I would expect to see some of those weapons being released, some of that ammunition to replenish the stockpiles of Israel in the coming days and weeks. The U.S. Navy, I will point out, still does not have a confirmed chief of naval operations because of the hold placed on her by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, which, Pentagon officials say continues impact their operations.”

Tuberville responded to Griffin’s statement on X, and said, “Forcing tax payers to fund elective, late term abortions or unanimous consent of 300 senior military promotions...the Biden Administration is showing us exactly what they care about. It’s not our national defense. It’s killing babies.”
