State television announced that Myanmar's U.N. envoy had been fired for betraying the country, a day after he urged the United Nations to use "any means necessary" to reverse the Feb. 1 coup that ousted elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Myanmar has been in turmoil since the army seized power and detained Suu Kyi and much of her party leadership, alleging fraud in a November election her party won in a landslide. The coup, which stalled Myanmar's progress toward democracy, has brought hundreds of thousands of protesters onto the streets and drawn condemnation from Western countries, with some imposing limited sanctions.

Viewed as an outsider to partisan politics, she now has a place in President Joe Biden’s inner sanctum, a Ph.D. economist who does the reading, knows the numbers and treats her staff as peers rather than underlings. Yellen had been at the White House to strategize about how to push through President Joe Biden’s proposed $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief plan — a package that could determine how quickly the U.S. economy heals, how the Democrats fare in the midterm elections and just how much Americans can trust the government to solve the nation's toughest problems. As a former chair of the Federal Reserve, Yellen carries the authority of a public servant who has already helped steer the economy back to health once and now has been called back at age 74 for an encore after former President Donald Trump declined to offer her another term as Fed chair.
Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler approved an operation to capture or kill murdered journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018, according to U.S. intelligence released on Friday as the United States imposed sanctions on some of those involved but spared the crown prince himself in an effort to preserve relations with the kingdom. Khashoggi, a U.S. resident who wrote opinion columns for the Washington Post critical of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's policies, was killed and dismembered by a team of operatives linked to the prince in the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul. The Saudi government, which has denied any involvement by the crown prince, issued a statement rejecting the U.S. report's findings and repeating its previous statements that Khashoggi's killing was a heinous crime by a rogue group.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HAYLEY ARCENEAUX: "So, I'm going to space!" Hayley Arceneaux is 29, a cancer survivor, and now she could become the youngest person ever to fly into space."Getting this call to go to space came out of completely nowhere. I think that's the beauty of life, that sometimes it surprises you."The opportunity has come her way through her workplace – St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. It was where she was treated as a child battling bone cancer."So when I was 10 years old, I was working my way towards my black belt, and I had actually just gotten my black belt in Tae Kwon Do before I was diagnosed with cancer, but I started having knee pain. And the thought it was from overuse from the Tae Kwon Do but then I started limping. And my mom noticed a big knot above my left knee. She took me to the doctor who did an x-ray and I'll never forget she, she came in the room with me and my parents and just said, 'This is bone cancer.""I spent a year at St. Jude undergoing intense chemo and then also surgery to save my leg. And as difficult as that year was physically, it it was the most meaningful year of my life"Arceneaux now works at St. Jude as a physician assistant. She was chosen by the hospital and billionaire philanthropist Jared Isaacman to fly on the private Inspiration4 SpaceX mission later in 2021.It will be the first space flight without an astronaut aboard. But before lift-off there’s training to be done."It'll start with the centrifuge training, like going around really fast to feel all the G-forces. And then we're going to prepare for any possible situation. We're going to spend a lot of time in the Dragon simulator and then I'll get some additional preparation as I'm the medical officer of this flight."Unlike the NASA and SpaceX flights that go to the International Space Station, this one will travel around Earth for several days, during which time Arceneaux said she expects to participate in science experiments…and also make time to video call kids at the hospital."I really hope to inspire these kids by going on this mission to dream big, that they can do anything. I was talking to this little girl yesterday and she was saying that she's upset that she can't run or jump. And I said, "You know, I can't run or jump either because I have a prosthesis in my leg but that's not stopping me from going to space.' This mission is opening up space travel to anyone and I think that in itself is going to motivate people and give them so much hope.""Kids are so visual and I hope that them being able to see me in space really shows them what their future can look like. I'm the first St. Jude patient to go to space, the first pediatric cancer survivor, but I know I'm not going to be the last."
It was the old Prince Harry that we all know and love, game for a laugh and happy to send himself up. Larking about with US chat show host James Corden on an open top bus tour through Los Angeles, there is no denying Harry’s first interview since leaving the Royal family was 17 minutes of TV gold. From the revelation that the Queen gave her great-grandson Archie a waffle maker for Christmas to the sixth-in-line to the throne rapping the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme tune, it was pitched as light entertainment. But it soon became apparent that the carefully-choreographed recording had a much heavier agenda than casual chit-chat over tea and scones. Borrowing boldly from the Hollywood playbook of mixing business with pleasure, the megabucks deal the Sussexes signed with Netflix last September came along for the ride as Harry extolled the virtues of The Crown. Most of his relatives have been so offended by its depiction of the Royals as gin-swilling sociopaths that they have refused to watch it, but not seemingly, the Queen’s grandson, who prefers it to “the stories written about my family, or my wife or myself". I’m not quite sure Prince Charles would agree, but then again, he’s not the one paying the bills any more. While next Sunday’s 90-minute Oprah special is largely focusing on Meghan, with a side order of Harry, this was about serving up a slice of Montecito monarchy to an eager American audience. Hence the rather laboured references to Royals not carrying cash or travelling on buses, which the Yanks lap up as greedily as episodes of Downton Abbey.
