Senator gets real time update on California shooting

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal on Thursday (November 14) found out about the Saugus High School shooting in Santa Clarita, California as he was delivering remarks during a live televised debate on gun control.

"As I speak on the floor right now, there is a school shooting in Santa Clara, California. How can we turn the other way? How can we refuse to see that shooting in real time, demanding our attention, requiring our action? We are complicit if we fail to act. It is not just a political responsibility, is a moral imperative," the Democrat from Connecticut said.

A California high school student pulled a .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun from his backpack and fired on fellow students as classes began on Thursday killing two and wounding three others. He saved the last bullet for himself. It was his 16th birthday.
