How to send cards to the families of victims of the Hedingham mass shooting

As the one-year anniversary of the Hedingham mass shooting approaches, the public can share its support for the victims’ families.

On Oct. 13, 2022, five people were killed and two others plus the accused shooter were injured in a mass shooting in the Hedingham neighborhood in northeast Raleigh.

After an hours-long standoff, the 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody. This month, the case was elevated from juvenile court to superior court with the suspect facing five counts of first-degree murder and other charges.

The city of Raleigh has reopened a post office box for people to send cards and letters to the victims’ families. The PO box was open right after the shooting with the city getting a few dozen cards from people across the state and around the country.

“This is just another way for people to express their grief,” said Robin Deacle, communications director for the city. “Everybody heals differently.”

The address for people to send cards is Raleigh Healing Together, PO Box 590, Raleigh, NC 27602-0590.
