Seneca County chase involving stolen car, unwilling passenger ends near Sycamore

A Seneca County chase involving a stolen vehicle and an unwilling passenger ended in northern Crawford County near Sycamore on Saturday afternoon.

According to a news release issued by Chief Deputy Charles W. Boyer of the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, Findlay police contacted area law enforcement around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, asking them to be on the lookout for white Audi that had been reported stolen from a Findlay dealership and was possibly heading toward Tiffin.

It was reported there was a unwilling passenger in the stolen vehicle, according to Boyer's release. Using text messages, the passenger was able to alert police to the stolen vehicle's location as it entered Tiffin.

Tiffin police officers tried to stop the vehicle on U.S. 224 near Mercy Health-Tiffin Hospital, but the driver fled, leaving the city, according to the release. Seneca County deputies assisted Tiffin police in the pursuit, which ended on Ohio 100, south of the Crawford County line. The driver, a 31-year-old Tiffin man, was taken into custody.

Sycamore Fire/EMS treated both the driver and passenger at the scene. A deputy whose hand was cut during the incident was taken to the Tiffin hospital, and released after treatment.

The driver was turned over to the Findlay Police Department on pending felony charges. Additional charges of fleeing and eluding are pending out of Seneca County, according to Boyer's news release.

Also assisting were the Ohio Highway Patrol, Crawford County Sheriff's Office and Wyandot County Sheriff's Office.
