Senior-level hires and promotions in Miami-Dade and Broward for the week of Feb. 10, 2020

HOSPITALITY

Gregory Sgarro has been named executive chef at Isabelle’s Grill Room & Garden at The Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove. He was director of culinary operations for Grateful Hospitality. Sgarro has an associate’s degree from Johnson & Wales University.

Enrique Villardefrancos has been named director of culinary operations at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables. He’ll oversee the Palme d’Or restaurant, the Fontana, the poolside and golf side restaurants and The Biltmore’s Culinary Academy an in-room dining. Villardefrancos was corporate executive chef for U.S. and the Caribbean for MSC Cruises.

LAW

Two attorneys have been promoted to partner at Grossman Roth Yaffa Cohen in Coral Gables:

Alex Arteaga-Gomez will continue his focus on a variety of matters ranging from general liability to medical malpractice and complex litigation. Before he joined the firm two years ago, he was an assistant federal public defender for the Southern District of Florida. (J.D., Unviersity of Miami),

William P. Mulligan, who has been with the firm four years, will focus on personal injury and medical malpractice disputes. (J.D., Boston College)

At Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, four were promoted to partner:

Jose Arango, who is part of the firm’s government’s division, is based in the Coral Gables office. (J.D., St. Thomas University)

Brooke Ehrlich, based in Fort Lauderdale, is part of the firm’s labor and employment law practice. (J.D., Nova Southeastern University)

Michael Kantor, also based in Fort Lauderdale, focuses on labor and employment matters. (J.D., NSU)

REAL ESTATE

Peter D. Sheridan has been named executive vice president for industrial leasing services in Broward and Palm Beach at JLL, a Chicago based commercial real estate firm. He was most recently senior director of leasing and development for Liberty Property Trust. Before that, he was part of JLL’s agency leasing team in South Florida. Sheridan has a degree in economics from Wabash College in Indiana.

VENUES

Micah Allen has been named director of sales at the Miami Beach Convention Center, a Spectra-managed venue. She was SMG Southeast region director of sales and marketing at the Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Mississippi.

Mover’s spotlight

Name: Jordi Cuervo

New position: Chief operating officer at Solis Health Plans. It is a Medicare Advantage health plan headquartered in Doral.

About: As COO, Cuervo is responsible for operations strategy and oversight of day-to-day business, including provider engagement, customer experience, training and process improvement. He has more than 20 years of healthcare industry experience.

From: Vice president of network development.

Also: Through his work with Solis Health Plans, he is involved with hosting food drives and charity events that support local organizations. Cuervo is also an avid cyclist and supports groups such as the Virginia Key Bicycle Club, which oversees the development of biking and hiking trails through community engagement.

Education: Cuervo has a bachelor’s from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.

Best advice: My father taught us that one major key to success is to take on the most difficult (or least pleasurable) tasks first. I use this to guide my decision making constantly and feel that it has been critical in my development as a leader and manager.
