Senior Soup-er Bowl cook-off has a touch of first Super Bowl

EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – It was game on at Brandon Wilde.

“We have our soup-er bowl cook off; it’s not kick-off today. We just wanted to play on the words, but also, just give an opportunity for team members and residents to make some soups,” said Avery Villiness, a Senior Director at Brandon Wilde.

It was a regular battle of the broth; a real consommé competition. These contestants putting their blood, sweat, and tears into their soups, and they’ve got to be fired up.

“Not really. It’s just a soup,” said Wayne Bland, who was in the competition.

If you’re having a soup-er bowl cook-off, you need a judge, and that job falling to Brandon Wilde resident Steve Wright in the Green Bay shirt. So, what qualifies him to be a judge?

“I’ve been in two Super Bowls for sure, so that gives me a little bit of a background,” said Steve.

That’s right. The Packers are not in this year’s Super Bowl, but they were in the first two and so was Steve, winning both.

“That’s back in the old days. I will say it was hard to beat Green Bay back then,” said Steve.

So, you having a soup-er bowl cook off with a Super Bowl pioneer player as a judge, and that is just super.

“I love that is the very first Super bowl. That rocks,” said Avery.

But not everyone is on the Green Bay bandwagon.

“You trust this judge – this Packer judge?”

“No,” said Wayne.

Don’t worry about Steve. He’s heard worse; I mean, he played for Vince Lombardi.
