Separate weekend wellness fairs in Anchorage offer family-friendly health tips

Apr. 30—Two separate family-friendly events focused on physical and mental well-being will be held in Anchorage this weekend, and there's also a prescription drug take-back day on Saturday.

Saturday: Mountain View community wellness fair

The event in Mountain View on Saturday is being held in honor of Dia del Niño, celebrated annually at the end of April as a tribute to children in Mexico and other Latin American countries, according to organizers.

Anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., families can stop by the Mountain View Library on Bragaw Street for piñata classes, art, routine immunizations, storytime in both English and Spanish, COVID-19 vaccines, boosters and rapid tests.

The Mountain View event is hosted by the library, the Alaska Primary Care Association, Enlaces and the Conquer COVID Alliance.

Sunday: Mental Health Resource Fair

On Sunday, Alaska Public Media is hosting its first Mental Health Resource Fair at The Nave (3502 Spenard Road) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The fair is free and includes appearances from over 20 local organizations that can share information and resources related to wellness and mental health.

There will also be free food, including pork sliders, dirty rice, barbecue and desserts; a kids area with games and art; plus free yoga and meditation classes.
