Sept. 11 remembrances and events in the Hudson Valley

Local Hudson Valley communities will commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks this weekend with ceremonies and memorials. If you know of one that is not listed, please contact Alexandra Rivera, arivera@gannett.com and the list will be updated.

Westchester County is partnering with Volunteer New York! to host a weekend of volunteer events across the region as a part of the annual 9/11: Serve + Remember Day of Service:

  • Friday, Sept. 8: Feed the Funnel Food Drive at Feeding Westchester in New Rochelle, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

  • Saturday, Sept. 9: Park beautification projects in Rye, Ossining, Yonkers, Harrison, New City, and more. Check website for full list of events.

  • Monday, Sept. 11: New York Blood Center will host a Blood Bank at the Westchester County Center, White Plains. 11-5 p.m.

    • Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps hosts their Hands-Only CPR Training at the Westchester County Center, White Plains. Noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m.

    • Create Cards for Troops with United for the Troops at the Westchester County Center, White Plains. 2 p.m.

    • Blanket-making for Project Linus at Westchester County Center, White Plains. Noon

South Salem: A wreath laying ceremony will take place at the Vista Fire Department in South Salem on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 8:30 a.m. 377 Smith Ridge Road, South Salem.

Carmel: Putnam County's annual candlelight vigil is on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Putnam Heroes Memorial in Spain Cornerstone Park, 1 Fair St., Carmel.

Clarkstown: The town's memorial will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at Clarkstown Town Hall, 10 Maple Ave., New City.

Croton-on-Hudson/Buchanan/Cortlandt: A tri-municipal memorial will occur on Monday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Reaching Through the Shadows Memorial in Croton Landing Park, Croton-on-Hudson.

Mamaroneck/Larchmont: The annual memorial for the two towns will take place on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. at "Girl Scout Rock" in Memorial Park, Myrtle Blvd. between Chatsworth Ave. and Baldwin Ave., Larchmont.

Haverstraw: Rockland County's official memorial takes place on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m. in Haverstraw Bay Park, Haverstraw. 21 Gagan Road, Haverstraw.

Valhalla: The Westchester County September 11th Memorial Ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. in Kenisco Dam Plaza, Valhalla. RSVP is encouraged at communications@westchestercountyny.gov

  • SUNY Westchester Community College will host their 9/11 Memorial Ceremony in honor of WCC alumnus and former FDNY firefighter Tom Foley on Monday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. 75 Grasslands Road, Valhalla.

Mount Kisco: The National Tunnels to Towers mobile exhibit will be on display at the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department through the weekend. The formal opening ceremony is at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9. Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 9 and 10 and 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11. 29 Green Street, Mount Kisco

  • A village-wide ceremony will take place at the September 11th memorial adjacent to the Mount Kisco Public Library on Monday, Sept. 11 at 6:15 p.m. 100 Main Street, Mount Kisco.

North Castle: The town will host their annual memorial at the Wampus Park gazebo on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. 811 NY-128, Armonk.

West Nyack: West Nyack's Hamlet Green and Firefighter Memorial Park will reopen this Sunday, Sept. 10 with a monument to honor Tom and Daniel Foley, former FDNY firefighters. The dedication ceremony is at noon. 721 W. Nyack Road, West Nyack.

Suffern: The Hillcrest Fire Department will host their memorial service at the Route 306 Firehouse on Monday, Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. 631 NY-306, Suffern.

  • The Village of Suffern's Remembrance Ceremony will be held outside of Suffern Village Hall on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. A barbecue in the park will follow the event. 61 Washington Ave, Suffern.

  • A town-wide memorial will be held at the Ramapo Town Hall on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. 237 NY-59, Suffern.

Stony Point: The town's memorial is at the Stony Point Town Hall on Monday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

  • The retired FDNY fireboat John McKean, which responded to the Sept. 11 attacks, is open for tours on Sunday Sept. 10 and Monday, Sept. 11 by appointment. Email David Rocco at coyoteroc@verizon.net to schedule a tour.

Spring Valley: A memorial will take place at Spring Valley Village Hall on Monday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. 200 N. Main St., Spring Valley

Orangetown: The Rockland County Patrolman's Benevolent Association is hosting a memorial at Veterans Park in Orangeburg on Monday, Sept. 11 at 5 p.m. 81 Hunt Road, Orangeburg.

Nyack: The annual Hometown Heroes Memorial will be held in Memorial Park on Monday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. to honor local victims and first responders. Piermont Ave., Nyack.
