Sept. 28 date set for Rock Island Ride in Chickasha

Jan. 17—September may seem far away, but the wheels are already in motion for the 8th Annual Rock Island Ride in Chickasha.

On Tuesday night, the Chickasha City Council approved 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 28 as the time and date for the event. The ride draws hundreds of cyclists to downtown Chickasha every fall, according to city documents.

As of now, the ride is expected to follow the same routes as last year. The Rock Island Ride allows participants to choose from several routes, ranging from an easy ride through town to a very hilly challenge.

The Rock Island Ride also helps local members of the community through some of their own challenges. Proceeds from the annual bike ride benefit the Salvation Army of Grady and Caddo Counties, Mobile Meals of Chickasha and the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry.

According to the Chickasha Chamber of Commerce, the Rock Island Ride will kick off a full day of events downtown. The Oklahoma Food Truck Championships, the Rock Island Arts Festival and the Together We Heel Walk. More information to come about these events leading up to September.
