Jump on into your pool — the water is still warm. So, take a lap and start thinking about what you’ll need for next year.

Dale Kleinert of Swimming Pool Discounters is getting ready for September sales.

“All the chemicals are half off. It’s a real good time to buy chemicals. Pool heaters are on sale. Filters on sale. All accessory items. You save 70% off all that material,” said Kleinert.

Is your grill almost gone? Mower not doing the job?

September is the month when retailers will be looking to unload any summer items they still have in stock.

“The bigger the item, the more likely the discounts are going to be larger, because they don’t have a place to store it,” said Elaine Luther, a consumer marketing expert and business management professor at Point Park University.

She says September is a terrific time to save on anything your child might still need for class, from school supplies to tech.

“Everything you thought you had to buy right before the first day of school will now be on sale,” said Luther.

If you or your students are in the market for a new iPhone, Apple unveils its newest model in September, which often means the prices will drop on older models.

September is also a great month to get a deal on big appliances. Luther advises consumers to size up their current washers, dryers, ovens and refrigerators. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade?

“It’s nice to wait until it breaks, but then often you are paying a premium when you didn’t have to,” said Luther.

If you need to spruce up your yard plants are a good deal. Look for perennials, like hostas and daylilies. Trees are discounted at the end of the season, and fall is the best time to plant those.

Finally, September is the time for mattress sales, usually around Labor Day. Get a great night’s sleep, and dream about what you can do with the money you saved.
