Sequoyah, LeFlore County election results

POTEAU, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — LeFlore and Sequoyah county residents headed to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots on multiple local candidates and issues.

Here are the unofficial results are in for the elections.

LeFlore County

The county voted on keeping an existing one-half percent sales tax to be used for various improvements and chose to continue the sales tax with over 63% voting yes.

In the Bokoshe School District, voters approved $255,000 for “constructing, equipping,
repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites.” 76% voted yes on the issue.

A vacant Poteau Public Schools board member position will come down to a runoff election as none of the three candidates received more than 50% of the votes. Gary Hecht received 49% of the votes, Tony Riley received 26.5% and Ramona Smith got 24%.

The runoff will be between Hecht and Riley.

There was also a vacancy for a board member for the Pocola Public Schools. Terry Smith received 51.7 percent of the votes, Ronnie Jon Piovesan got 37.4% and Gaylon E. Freeman got 10.8%.

What to know for LeFlore, Sequoyah County elections

Sequoyah County

The Central Public School district approved a $705,000 bond issue to fund school improvement projects with 69% percent voting yes.

Two council seats were filled for the City of Sallisaw. For Ward 2 Commissioner, Josh Bailey won with 52% percent of the votes, and for Ward 4 Commissioner, Brad Hamilton won also with 52% of the votes received.
