Serbia outraged by Ukraine's stance on Kosovo's Council of Europe membership

According to Dacic, he was "unpleasantly surprised" by Ukraine's decision. He said that Serbia has condemned all violations of Ukraine's territorial integrity in several resolutions, and that its foreign policy is based on the principle of reciprocity.

“You know how hard we vote for every resolution condemning the violation of Ukraine's territorial integrity in every resolution..., but when it comes to our territorial integrity, they abstain,” Serbian news outlet Politika quotes the minister.

“This will definitely affect our position in the future.”

Dacic also criticized Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Greece, which voted in favor, and thanked everyone who voted against, especially Cyprus, Spain, Romania, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. He also singled out Hungary, which recognized the independence of Kosovo, but voted against its membership in the Council of Europe.

In May 2022, Kosovo applied for membership in the Council of Europe.

On April 24, Kosovo announced that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe had decided to refer its membership application to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which now has to prepare its report. The decision was supported by 33 members of the committee (it represents 46 Council of Europe member countries), seven countries voted against, and five abstained.
