Serena Williams Had a Tough Time Planning Meghan Markle’s Baby Shower, and the Reason Is Soooo Serena

It’s no easy task planning a baby shower, especially when the mom-to-be is Meghan Markle. Nevertheless, the pressure didn’t stop Serena Williams from throwing the Duchess of Sussex, 37, a star-studded party in New York City back in February.

In a recent interview with Business of Fashion, the professional tennis player, also 37, discussed the royal baby shower and revealed the hardest part of planning: pleasing her own perfectionist personality.

“Planning something like that takes a lot of effort,” she said. “I’m a perfectionist, so I’m like, ‘Let’s make it perfect.’”

The baby shower took place in the penthouse of The Mark Hotel in New York City, and included everything from dessert stations and bouquet-arranging lessons to cotton candy machines and mysterious sugar cookies.

Williams footed the estimated $200,000 bill, which included the price of the penthouse itself. (The suite alone costs $75,000 per night, with two full floors, four fireplaces, five bedrooms and views of Central Park. It’s the most expensive hotel room in America, so there’s that.)

The guest list featured several familiar faces, like Jessica Mulroney, Priyanka Chopra, Amal Clooney and Suits co-star Abigail Spencer.

Markle’s NYC gathering wasn’t her only baby shower. In fact, the duchess had a second one in the U.K. with close friends and family shortly after her trip to Morocco with Prince Harry.

But we can only assume Serena’s was the better one. It was perfect, after all.
