Serena Williams Shut Down a Reporter Asking About Meghan Markle

Having friends in high places may not always be a good thing. According to Entertainment Tonight, during the Australian Open, a reporter asked Serena Williams about Meghan Markle, but the pro didn't let the question faze her. Instead, she brushed it off like the BFF she is.

ET reports that Williams competed in the tournament and the reporter in question brought up the fact that, in the past, Markle has been in the stands supporting her pal.

"Your good friend, Meghan Markle, who attended your last two slams, and Harry, have taken a move, a stance that many people think is extraordinary and historic. What are your feelings about that? Have you spoken to her?" the reporter asked, according to New York Times reporter Ben Rothenberg, who posted about the exchange on Instagram.

"Yeah, I have absolutely no comments on anything with that," Williams replied. However, she did commend the reporter for the effort, saying, "But good try. You tried. You did good."

Williams famously hosted Meghan's baby shower in New York City last year and attended her wedding, as well. CNN notes that the two met at a charity event and that Meghan was cheering Williams on at both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon last year. Williams is looking to earn her 24th grand slam title in Melbourne and won her very first tournament since she gave birth to her daughter, Alexis Olympia, last month.
