PALM BEACH GARDENS — One of South Florida's most famous golf courses received a turn in the spotlight during the Super Bowl broadcast Sunday night as the setting for a TV commercial featuring tennis great Serena Williams.

PGA National Resort is the scene of the ad for Remy Martin cognac that aired during the first quarter of the game, in which the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. In the commercial, Williams recites parts of the "Inch by Inch" speech first given by Al Pacino in the 1999 football film "Any Given Sunday" — "On this team, we fight for that inch!"

The commercial's locker room and tunnel scenes were filmed in the Grand Ballroom of the Palm Beach Gardens resort. The restaurant scene was shot at The Butcher's Club, an eatery created by Top Chef winner Jeremy Ford.

"PGA National Resort was a perfect combination of elegance and sophistication married to a large production space that allowed us to build the sets and at the same time shoot their existing properties," Jerry Blohm, the ad's production designer, told The Palm Beach Post on Tuesday.

"PGA National Resort gave us time to craft each shot, ultimately turning out a better product. The results can be seen on screen."

Williams, a 23-time grand slam tennis champion and longtime resident of the Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter areas, announced last summer that she will "evolve away" from tennis as she focuses on other business ventures.

"I have always been a fan of Remy Martin and the work they have done to amplify unique voices through collaboration," Williams said in a prepared statement. "I personally resonate with the values of the House (of Remy), and love that I'm able work with a brand whose principle of teamwork and dedication are closely aligned with my own."

The resort will have another turn in the spotlight at the end of February, when it again serves at the site of The PGA Tour's Honda Classic golf tournament.
