Series of gun bills introduced at Session 2023

A series of gun control proposals are before the General Assembly this year, including a unique approach to address ghost guns. Sen. Jeff Waldstreicher, vice chair of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, introduced a series of bills to address gun violence. One of the most controversial gun control proposals is Senate Bill 1/Gun Safety Act of 2023. It would prohibit those with concealed-carry permits to take their firearms within 100 feet of any public place. Waldstreicher, D-District 18, said that would include "schools, hospitals, libraries, synagogues, churches, mosques. Also parks, restaurants, anywhere the public is gathering."
