The new Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performance center is among a series of big downtown projects to open this year. Downtown Milwaukee's master plan is being updated, with plan organizers seeking public input.

A series of meetings to gather public input on Milwaukee's updating downtown master plan will begin in December.

The Department of City Development and Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District No. 21 will host the first such meeting, a virtual event, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9.

Registration for the meeting is now open and can be completed here.

Ongoing dialogue is also encouraged at www.connectingmke.com, where users can post ideas on a virtual wall, pin comments to an interactive map and chat with fellow Milwaukee residents.

The plan, dubbed “Connec+ing MKE 2040," will outline strategies for downtown's continuing development.

The current plan, drafted in 2010, included a focus on such projects as the downtown streetcar, the Lakefront Gateway area near the Couture apartment high-rise and the revival of Wisconsin Avenue.

Accessibility and connectivity to adjacent neighborhoods will be a key focus in discussions for the updated plan, according to a statement from the Department of City Development and Milwaukee Downtown BID.

The feedback will help identify areas for growth and improvement, which will influence planning decisions, according to the statement.

Comments can include notes about strengths, opportunities to grow, aspirations for an ideal downtown and suggestions for ways to measure results of the completed plan.
