Series of storms to impact the Central Valley into next week

FRESNO, Calif. (KGPE/KSEE) – California is right in the middle of the first or two atmospheric river storms. Heavy rain moved into the Central Valley Wednesday night and rain is expected through late Friday.

Storm two moves in Sunday morning with another round of moderate to heavy rain. That could continue through late Tuesday.

The current storm has the potential to produce isolated thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening. Showers will be light to moderate into Friday for the Valley. Heavy rain will continue in the Foothills and lower Sierra.

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a Flood Watch for the mountains at or below 5,000 feet through 4 a.m. Friday.

Moderate to heavy snow is likely in the Sierra through late Friday. A Winter Storm Warning issued by NWS Hanford remains in effect until 4 p.m. Friday. This is for mountain communities at or above 5,000 feet from Yosemite National Park south to the Tulare-Kern County line.

Snowfall projections are from one to four feet into late Friday. Wind gusts of 55 m.p.h. are possible at the highest elevations.
