CT man, 20, killed in fiery Hebron crash after Mustang strikes tree

A 20-year-old East Hartford man was killed Sunday morning when the Ford Mustang he was driving struck a tree and caught on fire, police said.

Firefighters and troopers from Connecticut State Police Troop K responded at 9:48 a.m. to the area of West Street and Karlswood Road where a vehicle was on fire following a collision, state police said.

Police said the Mustang had been driving south on West Street “at a high rate of speed” when, for an unknown reason, the driver veered off the right shoulder and struck a large tree.

After hitting the tree, the car caught on fire, according to police.

Police identified the man as Michael Anthony Cardello, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash and no other injuries were reported.
