Servicing of Russian Mir payment cards suspended by big bank in Tajikistan
The second largest bank in Tajikistan by the number of cardholders – Dushanbe City Bank – has suspended servicing of the Mir payment system cards, allegedly for “technical issues.”
The bank said that failures in the operation of Mir cards have been going on since Sept. 24. The schedule for the resumption of the bank’s work with the Russian cards has not been released.

"Since last Saturday, Dushanbe City Bank has been noting technical problems with the Russian payment system Mir; at the moment cards of the Mir payment system are not serviced in ATMs and POS terminals of Dushanbe City," the bank said in a statement.
Earlier, Russian media wrote that DDoS attacks were being carried out by Ukrainian hackers on the Mir payment system.
The banks of some countries have already suspended work with cards of the Mir payment system amid possible sanctions from the United States. In particular, Turkish banks Is Bankasi and DenizBank, as well as the Uzbek unified bank processing center Uzcard have refused to deal with the Russian cards.

Washington imposed sanctions on Sept. 15 against Vladimir Komlev, CEO of the National Payment Cards System of Russia, which manages the Mir payment card system.
In early March 2022, the global Visa and MasterCard payment systems stopped working in Russia. As a result, Russian cards for these payment systems work only within the country.

At the same time, Visa and MasterCard have said they will not issue new cards in Russia.
