Sessions withdraws from race

Oct. 23—Benjamin Sessions filed his application to run for City of Huntsville Ward 3 Council position on Aug. 21, but has announced on Monday, Oct, 23, that he is asking voters to select one of the other candidates.

Monday happened to be the first day of Early Voting at the Walker County Storm Shelter.

"Running as a candidate for the Huntsville Ward 3 City Council position has been a great experience. However, due to a change in my personal circumstances, I need to withdraw my name from the election," Sessions said in a special statement to The Item. "It was a pleasure to meet the two other candidates during the election campaign and I wish them all the best."

Sessions missed the deadline with the Secretary of State to remove his name from the ballot but said he encourages all residents to get out and vote.

"Thank you for the opportunity," said Sessions, who noted he had a great experience campaigning in Huntsville.
