The iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Festival, which was rescheduled from the spring due to inclement weather, is back this weekend and ready to inspire some hands-on creativity. Looking ahead, Labor Day weekend is a fine time for a trip up the mountain for some kite flying fun. Starry Nights programs are at Roper Mountain Science Center Aug. 25. “Take Flight” is at 4:30 p.m., “Invaders of Mars” is at 6 p.m. and “Solar Superstorms” is at 7:30 p.m. Advance ticket purchases are required. For details, visit ropermountain.org.

An Audition Workshop for “A Christmas Carol” is 9 a.m. – noon Aug. 26 at Spartanburg Youth Theatre. The cost is $30 each. Wonder Club launches at 2 p.m. Sept. 2 at TCMU-Greenville with an American Sign Language class. Wonder Club encourages young learners to follow their curiosity. In honor of Deaf Awareness Month, join American Sign Language expert Randi Harper in this introductory course where students will learn fingerspelling and basic greetings. For details, visit tcmupstate.org/greenville/wonderclub.

The Annual Mile High Kite Festival 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Sept. 3 in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Kite clubs will be on hand to demonstrate flying techniques and run kid-friendly contests. Free kites will be given to children while supplies last. Activities include races with kids pulling parachute kites, face painting, kiddie rides, live music, and a variety of craft and food vendors. Autumn at Oz is at Land of Oz in Beech Mountain, North Carolina Sept. 8 – 10, 15 – 17, and 22 – 24. This event combines a festival atmosphere with an interactive, immersive theatrical experience. Guests walk onto the Gale’s Kansas farm, visit Aunt Em and Uncle Henry’s Home, escape into the newly renovated Tornado Storm Cellar, and walk out on the Yellow Brick Road into the world of Oz.
