Sevastopol High School students sweep Miss Door County, Door County's Teen titles

BRUSSELS - Two Sevastopol High School students were crowned winners in the 27th annual Miss Door County Scholarship Organization pageant held Saturday at Southern Door Community Auditorium.

Kylee Duessler was named Miss Door County 2024 and Emily Bley is the new Miss Door County's Teen, succeeding 2023 title holders Lindsay Schuh and Kalei Klaubauf, respectively.

The two women, both seniors at Sevastopol, will represent Door County in this year's Miss Wisconsin and Miss Wisconsin's Teen pageants, both taking place from June 17 to 22 in Oshkosh. The Miss Wisconsin winner will represent the state in the Miss America pageant.

After graduation, Duessler plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and major in biomedical engineering. For her talent, she played “Andante et Allegro” on the trumpet. The community service initiative she will promote throughout the year is “Trust Your Training: Anxiety Awareness in Athletics."

Duessler earned a $2,000 scholarship for winning the 2024 title. She also received another $675 in scholarships for winning the interview and evening wear events and tying for first place in the STEAM Scholarship competition.

Bley plans to attend Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in the next school year to study nursing. She sang the Taylor Swift song “Back to December” for the talent part of the contest, and her community service initiative is "Nutrition Before Competition."

Along with the $1,000 scholarship she received for being named Miss Door County's Teen, Bley earned another $850 in scholarships for winning Teen Congeniality and the interview, talent and evening gown events.

A total of $8,500 in scholarships was awarded in this year's pageant to the three Miss Door County and four teen contestants. Over its 27 years, the pageant has awarded well more than $250,000 in scholarships.

The other Miss Door County contestants were Abrielle Lenius and Vanessa DeMarinis, who won a total of $975 and $900 in scholarships, respectively. They both received a $500 nonfinalist scholarship from the pageant organization, while Lenius won the Miss Congeniality and talent events and tied Duessler for the STEAM Scholarship and DeMarinis won the People's Choice scholarship.

Teen pageant competitors Isabel Jeanquart, Anna Dalke and Sayde Jeanquart won $775, $750 and $575 in scholarships, respectively. Each received a $500 nonfinalist scholarship, while Isabel Jeanquart won the Teen People's Choice scholarship and Dalke the Spritka Sister Scholarship.
