Seven affordable Christmas, New Year's destinations for travelers flying out of Appleton

GREENVILLE - The holiday season may be months away, but the time to start booking affordable travel is now.

Domestic airfares for Christmas are down $52 per ticket, or about 12%, from this time last year, according to Hopper's 2023 Holiday Travel Outlook.

Even though airfare is trending downward, the report suggests locking in holiday flights at least two months in advance of a trip to save the most money.

According to Cheap Air's Holiday Cheap Flights Report 2023, booking now could save travelers an average $62 per ticket compared to if they booked in December.

For those looking to book a holiday trip, we looked at roundtrip flights out of Appleton International Airport using Kayak and Google Flights to find domestic airfares under $400 around the holidays.

Here are seven destinations we found with affordable airfares out of Appleton.

Denver, Colorado

The Appleton airport offers multiple trips to Denver over Christmas and New Year's.

For a flight from Appleton to Denver during the week of Dec. 19 to 26, the cheapest flight was $197 while the most expensive flight listed was $406.

Appleton also offers a direct flight to Denver from Dec. 21 to 30 for $187.

And for New Year's travel, travelers can book a roundtrip ticket from Dec. 30 to Jan. 6 for as low as $132.

Nashville, Tennessee

If Music City is your home for the holidays, the Appleton airport offers multiple direct flights to Nashville over the holidays.

Roundtrip airfare for the week of Dec. 18 to 22 will cost $124 and flying roundtrip the next week between Dec. 24 to 31 is currently $144.

Houston, Texas

Those looking to get away from Wisconsin's freezing cold temperatures for the holidays can get a flight to Houston, which still has highs of 70 degrees in December.

A roundtrip flight for the week of Dec. 16 to 24 will cost $232 on the low end and $443 on the high end.

Phoenix, Arizona

Direct flights to Phoenix for travelers looking to spend their holidays in Arizona offer a roundtrip ticket from Dec. 28 to Jan. 4 for between $193 and $400.

Las Vegas, Nevada

For a trip from Appleton to Las Vegas from Dec. 19 to 24, the cheapest roundtrip airfares clock in at $282 while the most expensive ticket comes in at $393.

Roundtrip tickets for the following week, Dec. 24 to 29, currently cost between $317 and $398.

Los Angeles, California

If travelers want to ring in the New Year in sunny Los Angeles, there are currently flights for the week of Dec. 31 to Jan. 5 for as low as $417.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For those looking to travel to the City of Brotherly Love for Christmas, travelers can currently get a roundtrip ticket for the week of Dec. 19 to 26 for between $274 and $337.
