Seven families displaced by fire at Salisbury apartment complex

A two-alarm blaze in the early morning hours Monday caused an estimated $800,000 in damage at the Island Club Apartments complex in Salisbury and displaced seven families.

Here's what we know happened.

At approximately 3:14 a.m., more than 50 firefighters from the Salisbury Fire Department responded to a call at the Island Club Apartments at 1520 Sharen Drive, where a fire took an hour to control.

According to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, seven families were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Early reports from the incident, which is still under investigation, indicated smoke alarms were present and activated, but fire alarms and sprinklers were not.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the American Red Cross is aiding the displaced families.
