Seven FC players earn district first team
Nov. 18—FINDLAY — Seven area Firelands Conference standouts were selected to the OPSWA Northwest District first teams in Division VI and Div. VII, it was released Wednesday night.
A media panel from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association selected the teams, based on all-league voting and recommendations from head coaches. Players who earned first team are eligible for All-Ohio honors, which will be released Dec. 6-9, following the state championship games.
In Div. VII, three players from St. Paul and one from Monroeville and Plymouth were first team.
For the Flyers (10-2), senior standout linebacker Will Stieber was again selected to the first team. The soon-to-be three-time All-Ohioan finished with 87 tackles (three for loss), one sack, one fumble recovery and four pass breakups during the nine-game regular season. The fumble recovery was returned 98 yards for a touchdown in a 10-0 win over Huron on Aug. 20 in the season opener.
Stieber was joined on the first team on offense by senior offensive tackle Zach Pocos and senior punter Tyler Perkins. Pocos was the lone returning starter on the line entering the season for the Flyers, while Perkins averaged 43.4 yards on 16 punts.
Earning second team for St. Paul was junior running back Quincey Crabbs (785 yards, 9 TDs).
Junior standout Shea Sparks was first team at running back (1,202 yards, 19 TDs) for Plymouth. Also for the Big Red, Caiden Allen (WR) and Caleb Porter (OL) were honorable mention.
Senior Isaac Roeder earned first team honors for Monroeville at defensive back (91 tackles, 1 INT). Teammates Duncan Steward (OL) and running back Brayden Schuller (904 yards, 11 TDs) were honorable mention.
South Central senior receiver Carson Music was second team for the Trojans after totaling 60 catches for 782 yards and 8 TDs in nine games in the regular season. Junior linebacker Braden Kiesel (128 tackles, 3 sacks) and senior defensive back Kayden Hauler (71 tackles, 1 INT) earned honorable mention for the Trojans.
DIVISION VI
Western's Jarrett, Yoder first team
Western Reserve placed two players on the first team, one on second team and an honorable mention choice in Div. VI.
At receiver, senior Jake Jarrett was voted to the first team. During the regular season (nine games), he caught 48 passes for 710 yards with 8 TDs for the Roughriders (7-4).
Senior Joey Yoder was also first team on the defensive line, where he made 50 tackles (11 for loss) with a sack. Earning second team was senior outside linebacker Carson Roe (58 tackles, 13 TFL, 1 INT).
Also for the 'Riders, junior defensive back Jake Elkin (87 tackles, 6 TFL) was honorable mention.
