Seven more gunmen killed following attack on northern Mexico town
MEXICO CITY, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Security forces have shot dead seven more suspected cartel gunmen after an attack on the northern Mexican town of Villa Union, local authorities said on Sunday, bringing the total number of people killed in the area this weekend to at least 21.
The government of Coahuila state said ten gunmen and four police were killed in shootouts on Saturday in Villa Union, days after U.S. President Donald Trump raised bilateral tensions by saying he would designate the gangs as terrorists.
The gunmen peppered the Villa Union's mayor's office with bullets and state police pursued the gang members after they fled the town, killing seven more in the early hours of Sunday, the Coahuila government said in a statement. (Reporting by Dave Graham and Noe Torres Editing by Nick Zieminski)
