Seven-year-old pedestrian struck by car, critically injured in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD - A 7-year-old girl was critically injured Monday night after being struck by a vehicle at East County Line Road and Squankum Road, police said.

Officers responded to the incident about 5:30 p.m. and determined that the child was hit by a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, according to officials.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man from Lakewood, remained on the scene and is working with authorities, police said.

The child was brought to a trauma center to be treated for injuries that were described as “critical,” officials said.

The Lakewood Township Police Department is asking anyone with information about incident to call Traffic Safety Officer David Mercado at 732-363-0200.
