Seven teens arrested after shots fired near Montgomery County schools

SILVER SPRING, Md. (DC News Now) — Police said that seven teenagers were in custody after a shooting near two Montgomery County schools on Friday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said officers were dispatched to the area of University Boulevard West at Gable Street around 1:20 p.m. for a call about shots being fired. The listed location was close to Northwood High School and Forest Knolls Elementary School.

Responding officers got information that a group of teenage boys wearing mostly black clothing had run towards Sligo Creek Parkway near Tenbrook Drive.

MCPD dispatched its RAVEN 2 drone to help look for the teens. The drone quickly found them on the Sligo Creek Parkway Trail near Sligo Middle School.

MCPD and Maryland National Capital Park Police officers responded to the area. Police said that the teens ran towards the middle school, which was briefly placed on lockdown. Officers took all seven teens into custody at that time.

Police found two BB guns and shell casings from a handgun near the area of the initial shots fired call. Officers did not find the handgun.

Police said that the teens range between the ages of 14 and 15 years old. Several of them were not from Montgomery County.
