The seventh annual 'Night for the Natural Areas' at Twisted Trunk Brewery

Local photography and artwork showcasing Palm Beach County's natural areas, like this photo by Benji Studt, who is also public outreach program supervisor for the county's Department of Environmental Resources Management, will be raffled off during the 7th annual "Night for the Natural Areas" on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022 at Twisted Trunk Brewing in Palm Beach Gardens.

Whether it's hiking, biking, bird-watching, kayaking or paddle boarding, if you like to get outside and enjoy the county's natural beauty, the seventh annual "Night for Natural Areas" is for you.

The event, sponsored by Twisted Trunk Brewing, benefits dozens of designated Palm Beach County natural areas. It will feature a raffle of artwork donated by local nature photographers and artists, plenty of excellent food by Little Moir's Hibiscus StrEATery and a limited, canned release of Twisted Trunk's Loxahatchee lager.

The event will be 2 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and is $25 per person. That includes one raffle ticket, food and one beer.

Palm Beach County is home to dozens of designated natural areas totaling over 31,000 acres. These preserved lands are the county's last wild places and are open sunrise to sunset and free for all to enjoy.

Residents should look upon these preserves much as they do national parks, said Benji Studt, public outreach program supervisor for the county's Department of Environmental Resources Management.

Though they are chiefly for the native animals and plants that call them home, these spaces are open to the public with hundreds of miles of bicycle paths, paddling trails and more.

Money from the event at Twisted Trunk will go toward programsthat raise awareness of the county's natural areas — guided paddle tours, star-gazing events, photography classes and more — that are all free to the public, Studt said.

He said the goal is to let people know about these untamed, free-to-visit areas.

A list of the county's natural areas, including Jackson Riverfront Pines, Jupiter Ridge, Juno Dunes, Lake Park Scrub, Acreage Pines, South Cove, Snook Islands, Seacrest Scrub and many more, can be found at pbcnaturalareas.com.

Make sure to arrive hungry and thirsty!

Little Moir's StrEATery will cater the event with a menu that will include Indoroni (grown-up mac-n-cheese) with chicken, red onion, fried garlic, sriracha, homemade cheese sauce, parmesan cheese; sweet potato-crusted fish topped with sambal aioli; jerk chicken, Little Moir's coconut rice, spicy melon salad and a greens salad featuring mixed baby greens, tomatoes, toasted pumpkin seeds, avocado, red onion, croutons and key lime garlic dressing.

Keeping with the event's theme, Twisted Trunk's Loxahatchee lager is a golden, smooth European pilsner that is cold-conditioned for six weeks and brewed with Loxahatchee wildflower honey.

Provided by Palm Beach Creamed Honey, this honey features hints of hibiscus, lavender, and lemongrass.
