Several Boulder County officials sign letter opposing Prop 122

Oct. 27—Several Boulder County officials have signed a letter in opposition to Proposition 122.

Proposition 122 is on the November ballot statewide and would decriminalize and regulate certain psychedelic plants and fungi in Colorado.

The letter, dated Thursday and signed by 30 current and former Colorado officials, highlighted a lack of research into psychedelic plants and fungi.

"In a medically supervised setting, the use of psilocybin (mushrooms) for some mental health issues, shows early promise," the letter ready. "However, this ballot measure is not based on science and will prematurely unleash a new commercial industry, driven by out-of-state funders that are seeking to capitalize on increasing recreational drug use in Colorado."

The letter was signed by Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty, Boulder City Councilman Mark Wallach, State Rep. Judy Amabile, Boulder County Commissioner Marta Loachamin, and Boulder Valley School District board members Beth Niznik and Kathy Gebhardt.
