Several crashes claim lives this week

Apr. 7—It's been a deadly week for Permian Basin motorists.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, two Midland residents were killed in a hit-and-run crash late Sunday night.

A 2017 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling west on University Boulevard in Ector County when the driver failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle while turning left onto Sycamore Street around 10:30 p.m., according to DPS.

The driver of the Harley Davidson, Kristofer Goodrum, 40, and his passenger, Jessica Goodrum, 38, who were not wearing helmets, were pronounced dead at the scene, DPS stated.

The driver of the Chevy fled from the scene and has not been identified.

DPS investigators would like to speak with the registered owner of the Chevy.

In the second deadly crash, Guillermo Del Pozo-Fernandez, 42, and Yusleivy Sanchez-Mora, 42, were traveling east on SH 158 Tuesday morning when their Chevrolet Spark was struck by a Ford F-350 as it was trying to pass another vehicle four miles southeast of Midland. The Chevy was forced into the westbound lanes where it was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado.

Del-Pozo, a Midland resident, and Sanchez-Mora, a Miami, Florida resident, were pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the other vehicles, both from Midland, were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

In the third incident, Alexis Aguinaga-Rodriguez, 19, was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Wednesday night, according to DPS.

DPS troopers determined that the 18-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Impala was fleeing a crash inside the city limits of Midland at a high rate of speed when he struck the passenger side of a GMC Terrain that was turning left onto CR 121 from northbound SH 349 less than a mile south of Midland.

Both drivers were taken to Midland Memorial Hospital where Aguinaga-Rodriguez, the driver of the Terrain, succumbed to his injuries.

According to DPS, charges are pending for the driver of the Impala.
