Several graduations in Monroe County set for this week

Several area high schools have set graduation ceremonies for this week.

  • Jefferson High School is holding graduation at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the Marc Cisco Football Field.

Approximately 125 will receive diplomas.

The Jefferson Band, under the direction of Cary Vincent, will lead the processional. The band and choir will perform the National Anthem. The wind ensemble will play the class song, “Never Gonna Give You Up,” by Rick Astley. The bands also will play the recessional.

Nelson Henry, superintendent, will offer the welcome and introduction.

Garret Thomas, Ethan Wilgocki and Olivia Peare will offer Key to the Class of 2023.

DeAn Wuelfing, JHS principal, will present the class. Members of the board of education will confer diplomas.

The class’ flower is a blue rose; its motto is: "Let your dreams be bigger than your fears; your actions louder than your words, and your faith stronger than your feelings."

  • Airport High School, Carleton, will hold commencement at 6 p.m. Friday at the Thomas O. McCormick Field.

182 will receive diplomas.

Christopher Lukosavich, principal, will offer the welcome address, recognition of enlisted seniors and closing remarks. Matthew Furtney, assistant principal, will introduce the valedictorian and salutatorian, who will give addresses. John Krimmel, superintendent, will offer congratulatory remarks.

Anthony Ianni, motivational speaker, will give the address. Ianni also is an autism advocate and host of “The Centered Podcast.” A Michigan State University graduate, he is a two-time Big 10 champion, a Big 10 tournament champion and a member of the 2010 Final Four Team.

The high school band, under the direction of Melinda Novkicki, will play “Pomp and Circumstance.” The band and the choir and Varsity Voices will perform the National Anthem.

Senior choir members and Varsity Voices will perform the class song, “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.

School board members will confer diplomas.

“Over one-third of this graduating class maintained a 3.5 or higher GPA,” the school said.

  • Whiteford High School will hold its commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday at Crossroads Church, Ottawa Lake.

The board of education will confer diplomas to 62 graduates.

Speakers will be Scott Huard, superintendent; Jeremy Fielder, principal, and Jason Mensing, director of student advancement.

Music will be provided by the high school band, led by David Welling; choir, and Men/Women Ensemble, led by Todd Schreiber.

  • Carlson High School will hold graduation ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the high school stadium, Gibraltar.

268 will graduate.

Speakers will be: Amy Conway, superintendent; Jessica Shultz, principal; Shivam Patel, valedictorian; Adhav Rajesh, salutatorian, and Nadia Papalas, class president.

The choir and band will provide music.

Diplomas will be conferred by Jessica Gouin and Gina Fournier, class sponsors.

  • Monroe High School will hold its commencement exercises at 6:30 p.m. Friday on the football field.

If weather is inclement, graduation will be held indoors.

  • Summerfield High School will hold graduation at 2 p.m. Sunday in the high school gym.

38 will receive diplomas.

Speakers are Corey Shipe, elementary teacher, and Alex Lipka, high school teacher.

The band will offer music.

Diplomas will be conferred by Scott Salow, superintendent, and Kelly Sweeney and Katie Iott, school board members.

“This year were are celebrating the 75th anniversary of Summerfield High School (formerly Petersburg High School),” Salow said.
