Update: Nampa roads reopen after police arrest ‘wanted’ man barricaded in house

Several roads were closed off in downtown Nampa as officers negotiated with an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home after allegedly threatening his girlfriend, according to the Nampa Police Department.
Police diverted traffic and blocked roads around the 1000 block of 16th Avenue to keep the community safe at around 3:30 p.m. Thursday as officers were on the scene, the agency posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
By 7 p.m. the department had posted on X that the “wanted” man was in custody and that roads were expected to reopen soon. The department identified the man as a 63-year-old Nampa resident and arrested him on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, according to a news release from the department.
Police responded to the home after the man’s girlfriend called Nampa Police Dispatch around 11:30 a.m. and reported that he’d “threatened her with a shotgun” and said he might hurt others, the release said. The victim, who was no longer in the home, said the man owned several weapons.
Police said a man was “refusing to communicate” with officers, according to an earlier post on X. After the department’s crisis negotiators failed to break through, the agency’s Tactical Response Team entered the home and arrested the man without incident. He was taken to the Canyon County jail.
The following roads were blocked for over three hours:
East Roosevelt Avenue and 16th Avenue South
East Roosevelt Avenue and South Ivy Street
South Ivy Street and 11th Street South
