Several pedestrians hit during string of crashes in Bridgeport

Several pedestrians were struck during a series of crashes in Bridgeport on Sunday.

The first crash was reported just before 10:30 a.m. when police received calls reporting that a pedestrian and multiple vehicles had been struck in the area of 334 Orchard St., according to the Bridgeport Police Department.

Police said the pedestrian was taken to an area hospital with a leg injury. Officers detained one of the drivers involved at the scene, according to police.

That crash remains under investigation.

Just after 5:50 p.m., police learned that another pedestrian was struck in the area of Housatonic Avenue and East Washington Avenue, police said. Police did not provide any additional information about the crash.

At 8:05 p.m., Bridgeport police received the report of a third pedestrian being hit, this time in the area of Main Street and North Avenue. The individual who was struck reportedly got up and walked away from the area, police said.

Officers searched the area and could not find the pedestrian, police said.

“Bridgeport Police Department urges drivers and pedestrians to stay alert and be aware of their surroundings,” Tiadora Josef, director of Public Information for the City of Bridgeport, said in a statement Monday.
