More than a dozen people injured after vehicle crashes into Laconia, NH restaurant, police say

More than a dozen people were taken to hospitals after a vehicle crashed into an establishment in Laconia, New Hampshire as people were enjoying the holiday weekend on Sunday, police said.

Three people suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the crash at the Looney Bin Bar and Grill on Endicott Street North early Sunday afternoon, Police Chief Matt Canfield told Boston 25.

Twelve or 13 people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries, Canfield said. The victims’ conditions were not known on Sunday.

Emergency crews responded to the Looney Bin Bar and Grill after police received reports of a motor vehicle crash there at 12:47 p.m., Canfield said.

The crash occurred while other vehicles were coming and going in the area, the police chief said.

“A vehicle was pulling out of Funspot and turning left. There was another vehicle in the center lane, and the vehicle pulling out of Funspot didn’t see a third vehicle coming, causing a collision and causing the third vehicle to go into the restaurant,” Canfield said.

That third vehicle, a gray Acura sedan, crashed right into the the busy establishment, he said.

“It’s a very small establishment, so there were a number of people right inside the establishment,” Canfield said.

“Where the vehicle collided with the building, there’s a big window inside the establishment, a bar top and right behind that the actual bar, there were people right there where the vehicle crashed into it,” Canfield said.

Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash, he said.

No charges or citations have been issued at this time and the crash remains under investigation, Canfield said.

The building is stable and the road will reopen soon, police said.
