CHEBOYGAN — Several animals who had previously lived at the Cheboygan County Humane Society were adopted as a result of an adoption event at Cheboygan City Hall on Dec. 16.

"We did have a few adoptions there, and a few more the next day, so it was great," said Mary Talaske, executive director of the Cheboygan County Humane Society. "The folks at city hall were so helpful and generous. We will hopefully be able to do it again next year."

As a part of the event at city hall, Santa Claus was available for pet owners to get their photos taken, free of charge. When he wasn't busy taking photos with the pets and their owners, Santa Claus was playing with Rocky the dog and the other animals who were available for adoption at the event.

Also as a part of the adoption event at the city hall complex, pet owners could get their photos taken with Santa Claus, free of charge, like Rocky the dog did. Rocky is available for adoption at the Cheboygan County Humane Society.

Finnick that cat, who was one of the more popular animals at the event due to his loving, affectionate personality, was adopted and went to his forever home as a result of this event.

Many of the people who attended the adoption event at city hall — and the potluck luncheon in city council chambers — made donations of supplies to the humane society, to help with the day-to-day operations of the facility.

There are a number of supplies the animal shelter is in need of all year, including food to feed the animals, dry dog food of any kind, Iams dry puppy food, dry cat food of any kind, Iams dry kitten food, dog and cat treats and non-clumping cat litter.

Donations were made to the animal shelter at the adoption event as well, including dog and cat food, treats, bedding, cleaning supplies and more.

They are also always accepting cleaning supplies such as Pine-Sol, paper towels, heavy duty garbage bags, high efficiency laundry detergent and fabric softener sheets. They will also be accepting bottle return slips, Family Fare receipts, white office paper, bedding, new or used dog houses and first class postage stamps.

Donations of auto dish detergent, air fresheners, gas cards for transports and hand soap will also be accepted. All of these items can be dropped off at the Cheboygan County Humane Society —1536 Hackleburg Road in Cheboygan — during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.
