NORTH ALABAMA (WHNT) — Multiple reports suggest Former President Donald Trump appears poised to clinch the GOP presidential nomination, which may lead many to wonder…who he’ll choose as his running mate.  A new name has emerged as a contender for Trump’s Vice-presidential pick, U.S. Senator Katie Britt.

Some political analysts across the U.S. say Senator Britt is a rising star in the Republican party and could be the ideal running mate for Trump in his third bid for the White House.

News 19 Political Analyst Jay Town says Britt would add a lot of value to Trump’s ticket.

“She’s the most popular Senator in the United States Senate,” said Town. “She’s a great ambassador for patriotism and freedom. I would be surprised not to see her name on those shortlists.”

So far, Sen. Britt has yet to address the rumors of her possibly running as Former President Donald Trump’s VP. She did endorse Former President Trump for the Republican nomination for president in 2024 back in December.

“I think what Donald Trump’s strategy is going to have to be is to get somebody who is A) very qualified and B) appeals to centrist, moderates, independent voters,” stated Town.

Britt’s potential nomination has sparked a wide array of discussions among political analysts, many saying it would be a strategic move by the former president.

News 19 Political Analyst Jess Brown says, “In addition to selling her biography, they can take Katie Britt and she can almost go out and effectively argue any part of the Trump agenda and they don’t have to worry about her being in conflict with something she undertook as a senator.”

Brown says Trump should consider looking elsewhere for a running mate.

“If Donald Trump is on the ballot and has a pulse in November, he’s going to carry Alabama,” replied Brown. “Frankly, I’d look for me a female from one of these competitive states…Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, etc…”

This past Saturday, Former President Trump suggested he has his pick for vice president and hinted people won’t be that surprised by his choice of running mate.
