At least 4,000 utility customers in Greater Lansing experienced power outages as scattered thunderstorms moved through the area Wednesday morning.

Power had been restored to all but a few dozen of those customers as of early Wednesday afternoon, according to online outage maps.

More than 2,300 Lansing Board of Water and Light customers were without power, almost all of them in the southernmost part of south Lansing, according to the utility company's online map.

According to the map, the outage began around 6:52 a.m. Wednesday. The city-owned utility estimated power will be restored by 11 a.m. The cause is listed as unknown.

The vast majority of the outages are between Wise Road and South Pennsylvania Avenue, the map shows. It includes much of South Martin Luther King Blvd, South Washington Avenue and South Cedar Street.

In addition, about 1,035 Consumers Energy customers were experiencing outages in the eastern portion of the Grand Ledge area, the cause of which is listed as "trees." The outage began at 6:53 a.m. No restoration estimate was given.

And northwest of Grand Ledge in Eagle Township, HomeWorks Tri-County Electric Cooperative reported a smaller outage west of the Grand River along West State Road — affecting approximately 514 customers. The outage was first reported at 8:21 a.m. The company did not give an estimated time for when power would be restored.
