Severe storms again a possibility for southeastern Pennsylvania Monday afternoon and evening [Updated]

Jul. 3—Southeastern Pennsylvania could be in for another afternoon and evening of severe weather today.

At 2:55 p.m. the NWS added a severe thunderstorm watch, in effect until 10 p.m., for the following counties: Adams, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Philadelphia, Schuylkill and York.

On Sunday, there were three tornado warnings issued by the National Weather Service that affected Berks County. The first was issued around 6:15 p.m. for northeastern Berks and central Lehigh counties. The Iowa State University Environmental Mesonet indicated a funnel cloud formed over Lenhartsville.

The second and third warnings were issued for southeastern Berks, northwestern Montgomery and northeastern Chester counties.

Today, the National Weather Service Philadelphia Mount Holly office issued a Severe Weather Outlook at 6:15 a.m., which indicated severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail were possible throughout the region.

Around 10 a.m. the NWS issued another, more detailed graphic showing potential thunderstorm risks for the region.

The NWS forecast indicates there is a 30% of showers this afternoon with a 40-50% chance of heavy rain this evening.

If tornadoes, funnel clouds, wall clouds, persistent rotation, uprooted trees, downed power lines or hail of any size are observed, send an email to phi.skywarn@noaa.gov. On the Fourth of July, the risk for severe thunderstorms is listed as limited, however heavy rain is probable.

"Scattered thunderstorms are expected again on Tuesday, some of which may be severe," the NWS stated.

The forecasted highs for the Fourth of July: Reading, 87 degrees; Chester, 88; Lansdale, 86; Media, 86; Norristown, 87; Pottstown, 86; Springfield, 86; and West Chester, 83.
