Severe storms expected through Sunday morning across Central Texas

The National Weather Service expected numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop Saturday night into Sunday morning, along with a a weak cold front.

"Isolated severe storms are also possible," the weather service bulletin said Saturday.

The weather service predict a marginal or low risk for the storms. That is the lowest on the service's risk scale of five, meteorologist Nick Hampshire said.

Hampshire said rain will be scattered across the area but a fourth of an inch to 1½ inches can be expected.

The storms are expected to affect portions of the Hill County, the Interstate 35 corridor and the Coastal Plains. Some cities that are likely to be affected include Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, San Antonio, New Braunfels and Uvalde, the weather service said.

Storms were expected to arrive between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. across the Hill Country, between midnight and 4 a.m. across the I-35 corridor and between 3 and 6 a.m. across the Coastal Plains, the bulletin said.

"The storms are forecast to weaken early Sunday morning across the Coastal Plains as instability weakens," the bulletin said.

Drivers should not travel on flooded roads.

The weather service predicted cloudy skies Saturday across most areas of the Hill Country with a high of 60 degrees and between 70 and 80 degrees in other areas, the bulletin said.

Between Sunday evening and Monday morning, patchy areas of fog were expected to develop, with the fog dissipating around 10 a.m. Monday, the bulletin said.
