Storms knock out power to Roland on Thursday, leaves town in the dark

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Fort Smith Thursday, the National Weather Service reports.

There were 4,012 outages southwest of Fort Smith in Le Flore County in eastern Oklahoma, Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company reported.

About 36 power outages were reported by the Arkansas Valley Electrical Cooperative Corporation and about 47 outages in the area west of Fort Smith were reported by OG&E.

Some power outages are being reported.

A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southwestern Crawford, northwestern Sebastian, southeastern Sequoyah and northeastern Le Flore Counties through 4:15 p.m.

Radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Moffett, moving east at 10 mph.

Winds could gust up to 50 mph.

The weather service reports that wind could knock down small tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations in or near the path included Fort Smith, Van Buren, Roland, Arkoma, Moffett,  Fort Smith Regional Airport, Mill Creek,  Rye Hill,  Cottonwood, Dora and Braden.
