Severe thunderstorms could hit Western Maryland, south-central Pa. this afternoon
"Scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms" are expected to hit Washington County and the surrounding area Monday afternoon.
The hazardous weather outlook was issued by the National Weather Service office in Sterling, Va., which covers Western Maryland and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. In addition, the State College, Pa., office has placed Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 p.m.

The highest risk for severe storms in Washington County and the Eastern Panhandle will be between 1 and 6 p.m.
"Damaging winds are the primary threat, but large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible as well," the weather service reported.
Isolated flooding also is possible.
