Severe weather anticipated for Nashville, Middle Tennessee Sunday

The recent heat will put Middle Tennessee at risk for severe storms Sunday night.

Fast-moving thunderstorms will approach Middle Tennessee Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service. As they move through the area, damaging winds with gusts potentially near 70 mph and large hail will be the primary threats. While an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out, it is not the main hazard with this event.

Much of Middle Tennessee — including Nashville, Clarksville, Murfreesboro and Columbia — are at an enhanced risk (3 out of 5) for severe weather. Portions of West Tennessee from Jackson north to the state line are also included in the risk area.

Hot and humid conditions are expected Sunday afternoon with heat index values topping 100 for areas along and west of Interstate 65.

Once the severe weather threat moves on, typical summertime temperatures will move in, the NWS said.
